Who is Required to Secure this Bond?

All general and specialty contractors in the State of Washington are required to post a Washington contractor license bond to meet the licensing requirements. A gereral contractor can perform or supervise numerous trades or crafts. A specialty contractor can perform one building trade or craft.

Underwriting Process

A Washington contractor license bond is underwritten based on the personal credit report of the business owner/applicant. The bond rate varies based on the license classification and credit report. Once an application for an Washington contractor license bond is received, it will be submitted to the surety company for approval. A response on the approval and rate will be provided within 24 business hours of receiving the application.

What you Need to do Once you Have your Bond?  

The original bond must be filed with the State Department of Labor & Industries once approved and executed. The State will not accept faxed or emailed copies of the bond and the bond must be filed within 30 days of the effective date. Once filed with the State, the bond will remain in effect until cancelled by the surety company or principal.
